Easter is always Eggcellent

Kim, Abby, my cousin JC, and I with the eggs we colored
Everybody is so bummed out that we had to come back from our spring break. One plus side about coming back is knowing that this week is only a four day week worth of school. Because Easter is this weekend, the school district finally decided to let the schools have the whole day of Good Friday off and not just a half day like they usually do. With Good Friday now off, more people are allowed to go to church throughout the day. I always love the week of Easter!

One thing I love about the Easter season is the tradition of coloring eggs. I think this year my mom boiled somewhere around 1 ½ dozen of eggs for us to dye. We usually dye them the week or two before Easter so they can last for this special holiday. This year, my sisters and I also got the change to have one of my cousins come over and help us color them.

When it comes to coloring eggs, there are so many different ways to go. The very simplest way is to just drop the egg into the cup of vinegar with the tablet mixed in already. Although your outcome is only one color, it still comes out in a beautiful color if you let it sit there for a while. Here’s a tip: the longer you let them sit, the prettier the color will be.

If you want to step it up a notch, you can try different ways to tie dye the egg. One way that has always worked for me is by using shaving cream. You first start by smearing shaving cream all within a pan. Next, you squirt different colors of food coloring throughout the pan and use a tooth pick to mix it in within the cream. Once you get the design that you like, you just place the eggs in the shaving cream. The longer you let them sit, the more and darker the die will be on the egg shell. Once you finally decide to take them out, you now have an awesome tie dye egg!

Even though coloring Easter eggs is not the main point of the Easter season, it still is a fun tradition to have for the family. Think of it this way: Now whenever you want an egg for breakfast, instead of it being completely white, it’s now going to have a sweet color to it!
